Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Julius Daniel Mattai, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, is heading the Government of Sierra Leone’s (GoSL) delegation at the 2025 Intersessional Meeting of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), currently underway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from May 11 to May 16.
The Kimberley Process is said to be a global program that seeks to prevent the trade of conflict diamonds and to ensure that the international diamond supply chain is free of illegal and unethical actions.
Sierra Leone, as an active member of the KPCS, said to have made tremendous progress in strengthening internal controls and regulatory frameworks in the diamond sector.
Minister Mattai is expected to discuss increasing compliance measures, promoting reforms, and sharing the country’s experiences with improving governance in the extractive industry.
The intersessional meeting brings together KPCS member countries, industry representatives, and civil society organizations to evaluate current issues and determine future goals.
The country’s involvement in this forum said to have shown the government’s aim of attracting responsible investment, promoting sustainable development, and making sure that mineral resources contribute meaningfully to national progress and post-conflict rehabilitation.
