Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby recently met with the Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros to discuss improving collaboration as Mpox cases continue to rise in the country.

The meeting comes as the country currently has 1,409 active Mpox cases and continues to see new infections on a daily bases.

During their meeting, the two leaders focused on strategies to secure more vaccines to help stop the spread of Mpox in the country. Dr. Demby and Dr. Tedros agreed on the need for stronger cooperation between Sierra Leone’s health ministry and WHO to manage the outbreak effectively.

Efforts are now underway to increase vaccine availability to contain the spread of Mpox and protect public health.

Since the country recorded it first confirmed case in January 2025, a total of 3,140 has been recorded so far as of May 26, with 1432 active cases, 1693 recoveries, and 15 deaths.

The government has urge citizens to remain vigilant and follow public health guidelines to help prevent themselves from contacting the disease.
