Teaching Service Commission Ends Licensing Exam in Kenema

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has concluded the teacher licensing examination in Kenema for qualified applicants, as part of the government’s initiative to professionalize the teaching workforce across Sierra Leone.

The exam commenced on Friday, 23rd May until Monday 26th May 2025, at Kenema Government Secondary School. The exam will continue until May 26, 2025.

This nationwide licensing exam is mandatory for all public and private school teachers and serves as a key requirement for obtaining a teaching license. The license certifies a teacher’s competence, ethical conduct, and readiness to provide quality education in the classroom.

According to the Deputy Director of TSC in Kenema District, Tamba Sivico Bockarie, the process is about ensuring quality, credibility, and professionalism in the educational sector. He added that the examination is a crucial component of the government’s Free Quality School Education (FQSE) initiative.

The licensing effort aims to improve teaching and learning outcomes, standardize teacher qualifications and classroom conduct, and promote accountability in adherence to national educational standards. Thousands of teachers from across the country registered for the examination and had participated at their respective regional centers.

To ensure transparency and credibility, the examination process was closely monitored by civil society observers and members of the media. “We welcome this move; it’s a long-overdue step toward recognizing teaching as a dignified and respected profession,” said Madam Isata Kallon, a participating teacher in Kenema.
