Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. On February 19, 2026, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, Alhaji Fanday Turay, demonstrated compassion and solidarity by donating food items and cash to retired military officers as part of his annual Ramadan outreach.
Ambassador Turay, himself a former senior military officer, began the distribution along Benguema Road in Waterloo, where a group of ex-servicemen gathered to receive the support. The outreach continued later at the Youyi Building in Freetown, where dozens more retired personnel benefited from the gesture.
In his brief address to the beneficiaries, the Minister encouraged the retired officers to show appreciation to Julius Maada Bio and to remember him and his family in their prayers.
He emphasized that his ability to provide such assistance is made possible through the trust and opportunity granted to him by the President to serve in his current capacity.
The initiative forms part of Ambassador Turay’s longstanding tradition of reaching out to former colleagues in the armed forces during Ramadan and other major celebrations.
Ramadan, a sacred month observed by Muslims worldwide, is marked by reflection, sacrifice, generosity, and acts of charity – values the Minister sought to uphold through his outreach.
The retired officers expressed gratitude for the timely support, describing it as a meaningful gesture that strengthens the bond among members of the armed forces community, both past and present.
