Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. In a notable effort to bolster community infrastructure, NP Sierra Leone Limited formally unveiled a new solar-powered borehole and completed extensive renovations at the Government Independent Memorial Secondary School on Friday, September 5th, 2025.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, the company upgraded the school’s administrative building, installed a solar-powered water borehole with a storage tank, constructed new toilet facilities, and appointed a dedicated guide to assist children with disabilities, demonstrating a strong commitment to inclusive development.
During the unveiling ceremony, Engineer Dr. Mohamed Kanu, CEO of NP Sierra Leone Limited, urged students to pursue their academic ambitions with determination and resilience. Sharing his personal journey, he emphasized, “Despite the obstacles I encountered during my schooling, I persisted and succeeded. Today, I am proud to serve as the CEO of a leading oil company because I received a good education.”
He urged students to take their studies seriously, assuring them that earning a degree is within reach with perseverance: “There is nothing impossible about earning a degree.”
Describing the event as a milestone for both the school and the company, the CEO reaffirmed NP Sierra Leone Limited’s dedication to community development. “Our corporate social responsibility initiatives are meaningful. Education is vital, and giving back to society is both our obligation and a privilege,” he stated.
He also highlighted that this project marked the company’s second support initiative for the school, emphasizing the importance of a safe and healthy environment. “Health and safety are at the core of our efforts, which is why these renovations were undertaken—to foster a conducive learning space,” he explained.
Encouraging students and staff to utilize the new facilities responsibly, he stressed that the improvements are designed not only to enhance learning but also to uphold the dignity and safety of everyone within the school community. “We encourage all to take pride in these facilities,” he added.
Mrs. Fartoma, the Principal of the Junior School, expressed heartfelt appreciation for NP Sierra Leone Limited’s support. She recounted that the school had previously submitted a proposal last year regarding the dilapidated structures, and the company responded swiftly, beginning renovation work promptly.
“Thanks to NP Sierra Leone Limited, the barriers to effective learning caused by poor infrastructure have been removed,” she stated.
She also appealed for further assistance, requesting the company to consider paving the school grounds and fencing the premises to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.
This impactful project underscores NP Sierra Leone Limited’s dedication to promoting sustainable development and improving the lives of young learners in the community.
