PPRC Suspends APC Elections Amid Petitions

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has suspended all constituency elections scheduled for Saturday, 28th March 2026, in areas where ward-level results have been formally challenged, following a wave of petitions against the internal dispute resolution mechanism of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party.

In a letter dated 26th March 2026 addressed to the APC National Secretary General, the PPRC announced that it has been receiving complaints against decisions of the party’s Independent Elections Complaint Board (IECB) regarding the 21st February 2026 lower-level elections.

The Commission said it would continue to accept petitions challenging the IECB’s rulings until midday on Thursday, 2nd April 2026, which it set as the final deadline for submissions.

“Owing to the fact that the party has made available to the Commission the report/decisions of the IECB on the said petitions, the Commission shall continue to receive petitions against the decisions of the IECB till midday of Thursday 2nd April 2026,” the letter, signed by Acting Executive Secretary Lt. C. H. L. Momoh, stated.

Crucially, the PPRC ordered that “no Constituency in which a Ward Election was petitioned shall hold Constituency Election Scheduled for Saturday, 28th March 2026.” The directive effectively halts constituency-level polls in disputed areas pending further review.

The Commission said it would furnish the APC secretariat with all petitions received by the 2nd April deadline on the same day, accompanied by a schedule of hearings. Those hearings are set to begin on Tuesday, 7th April 2026.
