Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend the Twentieth Meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20), the annual gathering of leaders from the world’s major economies.
According to an official statement, he was warmly welcomed by senior South African government officials upon landing at Lanseria International Airport.
The G20 is widely regarded as the leading global forum for international economic cooperation, bringing together heads of state and government to discuss major global priorities.
These include climate action, public health, sustainable economic development, food security, digital governance, international trade, and efforts to reduce inequality. Its decisions are based on broad consensus and reflect the collective interests of its member states.
This year’s summit is considered historic, as South Africa holds the G20 Presidency and hosts the meeting — the first time the summit is being held on the African continent.
Expectations are high that the gathering will help accelerate Africa’s transformation in areas such as trade, industry, technology, and the creative sectors. With a rapidly growing population and expanding economic potential, Africa continues to strengthen its role in the global economy.
President Bio is expected to join world leaders in high-level discussions and participate in engagements aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties, advancing Sierra Leone’s development goals, and promoting Africa’s collective priorities on the international stage.
