Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio expressed strong support for Osman Yaah, the winner of last year’s innovation award, and his agricultural tech-farm initiative in Kono at the recent 2025 Sierra Leone Innovates Digital Government Summit in Freetown.
The President’s commitment to scale up Yaah’s innovative venture spotlights the government’s focus on empowering the agricultural sector and promoting youth engagement in farming.
President Bio’s commitment came amidst Yaah’s unwavering growth in the agricultural landscape, wherein he has been able to establish an advanced agricultural tech-farm in Kono. The technology is currently assisting in the hatching of chicks, and empowering farmers through digital agriculture to support the Government’s Free Quality Education project with thousands of bags of rice.
President Bio emphasized the importance of agriculture in the region, stating, “I am particularly encouraged because most of what I said have not fallen on deaf ears.” He urged the community to recognise Kono’s potential, remarking, “We should not just be talking about Kono and Diamond; it’s a fertile soil.”
He encouraged local farmers to invest their efforts wisely, suggesting that with the right knowledge of what to plant, they could reap significant rewards from crops such as coffee and cocoa. “They need to know what to plant, and they would get what they are sure of… coffee, cocoa, and other agricultural products,” he added.
In his remarks, President Bio acknowledged Yaah’s role in promoting agriculture as a viable option for youth empowerment and national development. “Nothing is more pleasing and gratifying than what I have seen, the demonstration of being able to inspire others,” he stated, asserting the positive impact of Yaah’s work on the community.
President Bio further affirmed his administration’s commitment to help scale Yaah’s initiative, saying, “And Osman, we are going to scale.”
