Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Rotaract Club of Freetown-Sunset will host a fundraising dinner this Saturday evening at the Bank Complex in Freetown, aimed at raising funds for the construction of a six-classroom building for Lirem Secondary School in Kamayama, Lumley.

The initiative is part of the club’s broader humanitarian mission to improve access to education and alleviate overcrowding in public schools across the Western Area.

Speaking to Sierraloaded, the club’s president, Alusine Conteh, emphasized the importance of the project in addressing critical infrastructure gaps at Lirem Secondary School.

“This initiative aligns with our ‘United for Good’ theme for the year and directly tackles the lack of basic infrastructure at the school,” Conteh said.

He further noted that the project would complement government efforts to expand access to quality education in underserved communities.

According to feasibility studies conducted by the club, Lirem Secondary School currently suffers from inadequate classroom space, no proper administrative block, and poor Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities.

To address these challenges, the Rotaract Club plans to construct six new classrooms and a modest administrative block for teachers. The project will also integrate WASH facilities to improve the overall learning environment.

Project Chair, Lawyer Daniel Sawaneh, confirmed that construction is set to begin in October with the laying of foundations and other structural work.

“This project is a collaborative effort between the club, the school, and the wider community. Together, we’re working to achieve a shared vision for better education,” Sawaneh stated.

This marks the second large-scale educational project by the club in just two years, following the successful construction of a school block in Liroh village, Tonkolili District.

Comprising young professionals from various sectors, the Rotaract Club of Freetown-Sunset continues to serve as a driving force for community development in Freetown and beyond.
