Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The government’s intensified efforts to combat the Kush epidemic have received a major boost as the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) deploys 60 additional military officers to support the ongoing nationwide crackdown on drug abuse and trafficking.
The Acting Director of Drug Prevention, Education, and Training at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ibrahim Samuel Dugba, confirmed the development, noting that the move aligns with President Julius Maada Bio’s directive to strengthen the national response to the drug crisis threatening the country’s youth.
According to Mr. Dugba, the deployment aims to enhance joint operations between the NDLEA, Police, and Military task forces, ensuring swift and coordinated action in dismantling drug networks and curbing the spread of Kush and other harmful substances.
“This is a coordinated national response to protect our young people and communities from the devastating impact of Kush,” Dugba stated. “The military’s involvement will significantly boost the capacity of enforcement teams already on the ground.”
He further emphasized that the government remains committed to addressing the crisis through law enforcement, public education, and rehabilitation programs, noting that prevention and awareness are as crucial as punishment.
The NDLEA has also called on communities to support the campaign by providing credible intelligence and discouraging youth involvement in drug-related activities.
As the crackdown intensifies, authorities have reaffirmed their stance that there will be no safe haven for drug dealers or abusers across Sierra Leone.
