Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone co-chaired the United Nations’ commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY) on September 25, using the global platform to issue a forceful call for genuine youth inclusion and financing.

Representing Sierra Leone, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, Minister of Youth Affairs, co-chaired the event at the UN General Assembly alongside H.E. Dr. Terrance M. Drew, Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

In his address, Minister Sannoh delivered a key message: the success of global cooperation, or multilateralism, will ultimately be judged by how it treats its young people.

Given that over 70% of Sierra Leone’s population is under the age of 35, the Minister emphasized that youth inclusion must transcend symbolic gestures. He outlined key areas where tangible action is necessary, stating that meaningful inclusion means:

Granting youth seats at the decision-making table.

Providing financing that reaches young people directly.

Developing policies that actively tackle climate change and the digital divide.

Creating structures where youth serve as co-authors of their own future.

Minister Sannoh concluded with a clear directive for the program’s future, stressing that the next 30 years of the WPAY must prioritize delivery over promises. He argued that only through concrete action will goals like peace, inclusion, and universality gain real meaning for young people worldwide.
