Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Embassy of Sierra Leone in Beijing, led by Ambassador Abu Bakarr Karim, has successfully facilitated the repatriation of five Sierra Leonean nationals who were stranded in Myanmar.

The operation, which commenced over two months ago, was conducted in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Thai Government, which worked closely with the Embassy to ensure the safe return of the citizens.

Deputy Ambassador Saffa-woya Rogers represented the embassy during the repatriation process, receiving the stranded Sierra Leoneans at the border between Thailand and Myanmar.

While specific details regarding the circumstances that led to their stranding in Myanmar have not been disclosed, the Embassy has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Sierra Leoneans overseas.

The successful repatriation underscored the strong partnership between the Sierra Leonean government and international organizations like the IOM in addressing migration challenges.

The returnees are expected to reunite with their families soon, and the government has assured provision on support upon their reintegration. The Embassy expressed gratitude to the IOM and Thai authorities for their cooperation in ensuring a smooth repatriation process.
