Sierra Leone Kicks Off First National Labour Conference

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Labour Conference has officially commenced today, 29th April, 2025 at the Miatta Conference Centre in Freetown, featuring a Social Dialogue Session.

Hosted by the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Labour Congress and the Sierra Leone Employers’ Federation, the landmark event marks the first of its kind in the country.

The idea for the forum originated during last year’s May Day celebrations when Honourable Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh called for a national platform to openly discuss labour-related and social issues affecting employers and employees, with the government acting as a mediator.

Chairing today’s session, the Honourable Vice President expressed his delight and commended Labour Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray for bringing this vision to life.

The discussions are being facilitated by distinguished journalist and broadcaster Umaru Fofanah, alongside Communications Expert in Broadcast Phebean Swill.

Their extensive experience in covering labour, governance, and economic issues is expected to play a crucial role in shaping conversations around the Future of Work in Sierra Leone.

The National Labour Conference 2025 is said to be more than just a gathering; it is a transformative dialogue focused on employment trends, economic growth, and workforce development in Sierra Leone. This year’s conference promises to be energizing, innovative, and deeply impactful.
