Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Health (MoH), in collaboration with the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), has officially launched Sierra Leone’s first Certificate Programme in Biomedical Technology.
The initiative marks a major milestone in strengthening the country’s healthcare workforce.
The first cohort of MoH biomedical engineers will now receive formal training to manage, maintain, and troubleshoot modern medical equipment in health facilities nationwide.
The one-year intensive programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills in installing, maintaining, and calibrating hospital equipment such as diagnostic machines, laboratory instruments, and patient monitoring systems.
According to officials, the programme aims to develop a competent workforce capable of supporting advanced medical technologies and ensuring that healthcare facilities remain fully functional and up to modern standards.
The launch is expected to enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and open new professional pathways in Sierra Leone’s biomedical sector.
