Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu recently visited the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Garment Factory to assess its facilities and announce plans for significant upgrades aimed at improving service delivery.
During his inspection, IGP Sellu revealed intentions to establish a dedicated showroom at the factory.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to decentralize uniform production, addressing ongoing supply challenges faced by police personnel across the country. “Police personnel should not have to come to Freetown to obtain their uniforms. Everything they need should be available within their regions,” he stated.
Sellu emphasized the importance of this change, urging Regional Police Commanders to identify suitable locations for showroom facilities within their jurisdictions. The move is expected to streamline the process of uniform distribution and reduce travel burdens on officers.
The IGP also affirmed the progress made in the SLP’s transition process, assuring personnel that there is adequate manpower to produce standardized uniforms for all officers. He noted that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is scheduled to visit the factory soon to evaluate its facilities, with the goal of upgrading them to meet international standards.
Concluding his address, IGP Sellu encouraged all personnel to embrace those changes, stating that they are essential for the organization’s growth and operational efficiency.
