Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Karate team recently represented the nation at the Africa Karate Championship held in Abuja, Nigeria, marking another step in the country’s growing presence in international martial arts competitions.
Among the highlights of the tournament, Samvic Vince Amara secured a win against Rwanda in the individual kata category before being narrowly defeated by Morocco. In the team kata event, Sierra Leone faced the host nation, Nigeria, and lost. In the kumite (sparring) division, competitor Samuel was eliminated in the first round, while Foday Abu Kamara advanced to the third round, securing a respectable position.
During their stay in Abuja, the Sierra Leone delegation, led by Kyoshi Victor Edward Amara, President of the Sierra Leone Karate Federation, paid a courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone Embassy. The visit was aimed at keeping diplomatic officials informed of the team’s performance and reinforcing ties between the sporting and diplomatic communities.
In recognition of his longstanding contributions to the sport, Kyoshi Amara was awarded a certificate and a gold medal during the event. He has been a consistent figure in African Karate Championships and has actively promoted the discipline across the continent.
Kyoshi Amara emphasized that the recognition was a reflection of the collective efforts of the federation. “This award is not just for me, but for the entire Sierra Leone Karate Federation. It is a testament to our collective commitment to the sport and to Africa’s martial arts community,” he stated.
The Sierra Leone Karate Federation continues to make strides locally and internationally, with aspirations to further develop the sport and inspire future athletes.
