Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. As part of an ongoing cultural exchange and digital diplomacy initiative, a team of prominent Sierra Leonean and other African content creators on Wednesday visited the iconic India Gate in New Delhi.
The visit is part of the India Familiarization Tour 2025, a fully funded initiative spearheaded by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs through its External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division, and the External Language Media Section.
Representing Sierra Leone are some of the country’s most influential digital voices: Sarah Kallay, CEO of the Sarah Kallay Blog; Hamza of Hamza4SL; Aaron Parker, Team Lead at Sierraloaded; Samantha Mansaray of Sammy Man’s Blog; and Sulla Kamuskay of Salone Messenger.
They are joined by other top content creators from across the African continent, including participants from Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Ghana, Liberia, Namibia, Nigeria, São Tomé, South Africa, and Togo.
During their visit to the India Gate — one of India’s most revered national monuments — the content creators were given a guided tour of the landmark’s historical significance and architectural grandeur. The moment was captured and shared widely on social media platforms, marking a symbolic fusion of African and Indian narratives through digital storytelling.
Standing at 42 meters tall, the India Gate is a majestic war memorial located at the heart of India’s capital, New Delhi. Designed by renowned British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and inaugurated in 1931, the monument commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. Beneath the arch burns the eternal flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti (Flame of the Immortal Soldier), a tribute to fallen soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces.
Beyond its historic purpose, India Gate serves as a powerful national symbol and a gathering point for reflection, patriotism, and public celebration — making it an essential stop on any cultural tour of India.
The India Familiarization Tour 2025 aims to strengthen people-to-people ties between India and African nations by immersing digital influencers in the rich cultural, historical, and technological landscape of India.
Through blog posts, videos, and real-time social media engagement, participants are expected to amplify shared narratives of diversity, history, and collaboration between India and Africa.
As the tour continues, participants are expected to visit other landmarks, interact with Indian innovators and artists, and participate in cultural exchange forums — further cementing bonds between the Global South’s creative communities.
