SLFA Electoral Appeals Committee Upholds Election Results

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Electoral Appeals Committee has confirmed the results of the Ordinary Congress and elections held on 2 August 2025, dismissing challenges filed by presidential candidate Aminata Bangura, ex-officio candidate Musa K.D. Mahmood, and the Freetonians SLIFA.

According to the ruling, Babadi Kamara won the election with 43 votes, while Aminata Bangura secured 11 votes, with one abstention.

The Committee concluded that the alleged irregularities raised by the appellants did not materially affect the outcome and therefore refused calls to nullify the elections.

Despite upholding the results, the Committee expressed concerns over aspects of the election process, particularly the convening procedure, the late release of the voter list, and the forcible removal of SLIFA delegate Benjamin Gordon Esq. The incident involving Gordon has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Board (IPCB) for independent investigation.

To prevent similar issues in future elections, the Committee instructed the SLFA to implement several safeguards, including:

Publishing the final delegate list at least 48 hours before voting.

Documenting leadership absences and delegation of authority.

Establishing protocols to ensure delegate safety and prevent intimidation.

The Committee also ruled that each party must bear its own costs. The decision is final, although parties retain appeal rights under SLFA statutes.
