Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has questioned the All People’s Congress (APC) for what he described as the party’s “silence and inaction” over reckless and inflammatory statements made by some of its senior members.
Speaking on Radio Democracy’s Good Morning Salone program, Mambu said that when SLPP’s Kadiru Kaikai made a controversial statement, the SLPP immediately issued a press release disassociating both the party and its leadership from his comments. He added that Kadiru was subsequently suspended from the party and barred from carrying out any political operations in the name of the SLPP.
“That’s what a democratic party should do,” Mambu emphasized.
He went on to criticize the APC for failing to take similar disciplinary action when Hon. AKK allegedly made what he called a “reckless statement” that threatened the peace and democracy of the country.
“When Honorable AKK issued a reckless statement , a threat to the peace and democracy of the country , what did the APC do to him? Nothing,” Mambu stated, adding, “Honorable AKK’s statement of igniting war was reckless, and I stand by it.”
Mambu further referenced APC’s Alfred Minkailu, questioning the party’s reaction following the SLPP Chairman’s engagement with Pa Yansaneh.
“After the SLPP Chairman sat on the same table with Pa Yansaneh, the next day when Hon. AKK was inciting the public for violence, what did Alfred Minkailu do? He chose to respond to the SLPP instead,” he said.
Mambu maintained that the SLPP has always taken decisive action against its members who make inflammatory remarks, citing Kadiru’s suspension as a “vivid example.”
“When Hon. AKK and Minkailu issued reckless statements, they were not able to defend them , by the time they blew the whistle, they couldn’t stand,” he noted.
Concluding his remarks, Mambu asserted that when the SLPP is in opposition, the APC “hides under the bed,” adding that it is the SLPP that continues to demonstrate responsible political conduct.
“The SLPP is not issuing threats, that’s the difference,” Mambu ended.
