Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Statistics Sierra Leone, in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has conducted an orientation session for both national and international independent monitors who will oversee the upcoming Pilot Census.
The pilot exercise is designed to test systems, tools, and field operations ahead of the main census scheduled for December 2025.
The census is scheduled to take place in December 2026, but it was originally planned for December 2025. The date was moved after international experts advised that more time was needed to fully prepare the systems, mapping, and technology.
Representatives from MDAs, academia, political parties, UN agencies, civil society groups, and international partners reviewed the instruments, procedures, and field protocols that will guide real-time monitoring during the pilot phase.
The independent monitors will assess the pilot’s performance and provide objective feedback to ensure the country is fully prepared to deliver a credible, inclusive, and well-coordinated census in 2026.
