Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Hospital is receiving free surgical services and medical equipment from the Surgeons in Action Foundation, a team of doctors currently working in Freetown.
Since arriving on Friday, May 2, 2025, the team has completed 88 free surgeries. These include procedures for 57 police officers, while others were done for their family members and local residents. The team plans to carry out over 217 surgeries before the end of their stay.
The foundation also donated an anesthesia machine and other medical tools worth more than seventy thousand US dollars. These tools are now being used at the hospital to help treat patients more safely and quickly.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, a short event was held at the office of the Inspector General of Police at Kingtom Police Barracks to share updates about the visit.
ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh said that the medical team has helped many people in just a few days. He also said that the foundation is helping one of the police doctors with special training in Uganda.
Francisco Gomez Marquez, who is leading the team, said they are happy to be in Sierra Leone. He thanked the Inspector General of Police and the hospital staff for their support.
Inspector General William Fayia Sellu thanked the team for coming on their own and doing free surgeries. He said their work is helping not just the police but also the wider community. He added that the hospital is now also used as a training place for students, which is helping improve how the hospital runs.
The police leadership thanked the foundation and said they hope this kind of support continues.
