Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Member of Parliament for Pujehun District 005, Hon. Alhaji Abu Kemokai, has facilitated the distribution of seed rice and financial support to the Kpetewoma Women’s Agricultural Group in Pujehun town.
The initiative, backed by UN Women, is designed to boost women’s capacity in inland swamp cultivation and enhance food security in the district. Over forty women farmers benefited from the support, receiving both seed rice and cash assistance to kickstart a new farming cycle.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Kemokai described the gesture as both immediate relief and an investment in the district’s agricultural future. “This support not only strengthens their current farming activities but also lays the foundation for sustainable agricultural initiatives across Pujehun District,” he noted.
Madam Sadiatu Kemokai Leigh, Chairlady of the Kpetewoma Women’s Agricultural Group, expressed appreciation for the support, emphasizing their commitment to reinvesting after harvest. She highlighted the group’s vision to extend assistance to other women interested in farming. “Our goal is to contribute meaningfully to food security in Pujehun District, ensuring our communities have access to sufficient and nutritious food,” she said.
Madam Leigh further appealed for additional assistance in the provision of storage facilities and rice mills to complement their cultivation efforts.
The initiative also received endorsement from the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, who visited the group on October 2, 2025. He praised UN Women for their collaboration, describing the support as a vital contribution to the government’s Feed Salone initiative.
With this partnership, the Kpetewoma Women’s Agricultural Group is positioned to transform the agricultural landscape of Pujehun, fostering self-reliance and long-term food security in the community.
