Africa-Press – South-Africa. Civic society groups leading the fight against Johannesburg’s ongoing water challenges are urging politicians to support residents, not exploit them.
On Saturday, scores of residents protested outside the City’s chambers, expressing their frustration over persistent water shortages. Many said they are tired of dry taps and cannot continue paying for a service they are not receiving.
Water CAN’s Executive Director, Ferrial Adam, called on politicians to avoid using residents’ struggles as a platform for personal or political gain.
“Our unity is our power, and our power is our path to justice. There are some political parties here today. But let me be clear, you are welcome as supporters, not as beneficiaries. You, the political parties, must take this message into Parliament.”
