Africa-Press – South-Africa. Some members of Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption have raised concerns over the safety of some witnesses, especially on the parliamentary precinct.
This follows last week’s appearance of Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head, Anthea Johnson, who told the committee that she received death threats.
IDAC’s Head of Operations, Matthews Sesoko, was also kidnapped and robbed of his devices on Friday, according to the corruption fighting unit.
Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Dianne Kohler Barnard raised the issue during Monday’s meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee which was discussing its interim report on work completed so far and its programme for witnesses.
“I think we need to focus on the safety of our witnesses within the Parliamentary precinct. I’m hoping very much that as a committee you are working with the parliamentary protection services considering the death threat against advocate Johnson and of course Sesoko as the head investigator had been kidnapped and beaten up.”
