Africa-Press – South-Africa. The South African Weather Service says parts of the country experienced one of the wettest Octobers in decades, with several areas receiving well above-average rainfall.

Although, some regions experienced below-normal rainfall, localised extremes highlight significant variability across the country during the start of the summer rainy season.

Rudzani Malala, senior manager for disaster risk reduction at the South African Weather Service, said that many measuring stations recorded parts of South Africa receiving four times above-average rainfall.

“We have a number of measuring stations that have indicated way above rainfall amounts than normal rainfall we get… we know that when we get rainfall, it also comes with challenges as well like damages to infrastructure, waterborne diseases and many other issues – but it’s good for the country that it’s getting water, and it’s good for the agricultural sector.”
