Artists Demand Whistleblower Protection Amid SAMRO Protests

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Artists protesting against alleged corruption at the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) are calling for the protection of all whistleblowers.

This demand follows the suspension of SAMRO’s chief operating officer (COO), Mpho Mofikoe. The artists claim Mofikoe was removed from her position after requesting an investigation into the organisation’s alleged governance failures.

However, SAMRO has issued a statement refuting these claims, asserting that it had, in fact, commissioned its own probe into the irregular payments of over R3 million.

South African artist Mercy Pakela confirmed that the artists would stand with the COO, whom they believe was wrongfully removed.

Pakela stated: “As women, [we] stand by Mpho. Come shine, Mpho. We will fight for Mpho to come out clean and go back and represent us in this entity, and SAMRO, you must do the right thing.”
