Africa-Press – South-Africa. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said he expects South Africa’s G20 presidency to pull in billions of rands into the economy.
South Africa assumed the G20 presidency in December last year.
The rotational presidency comes to an end this week when Johannesburg hosts the leaders’ summit.
While the country has been criticised for its massive spend on hosting duties, Lesufi said he expects good return on the country’s investment.
Lesufi addressed the media on the state of readiness to host the all-important summit in the south of Johannesburg on Monday.
“In terms of the tourism figures, we’re quite excited about that. Almost all our hotels are fully booked, the airlines are fully booked to come here, our retail stores, especially our malls, are abuzz with visitors and our major tourist attractions from Magalies up coming down here, so immediately after that it’s only after they’ve spent money will we tell you how much they’ve spent but we’ll end up looking beyond the billions of rands.”
