Madlanga Commission Dispute Over Police Affairs

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Despite evidence showing his interference in high-level policing matters, controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi disputes that he ever meddled in police affairs.

Mogotsi has been undergoing cross-examination at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.

Chief evidence leader, Advocate Matthew Chaskalson, has poked holes in Mogotsi’s testimony, likening it to hearsay rather than evidence.

In a message to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, self-proclaimed Crime Intelligence agent, Brown Mogotsi, detailed how Mchunu and Shadrack Sibiya could take disciplinary action against Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo.

Mogotsi forwarded a Constitutional Court judgment to Mchunu, suggesting that it had implications against members of the political killings task team (PKTT) and Khumalo being project coordinator of the PKTT.

But in fact, the judgment had nothing to do with the PKTT and Madlanga co-commissioner, Advocate Sandile Khumalo, saw this as meddling in police affairs.

“Here you are advising a minister to charge a senior general in the SAPS. I’m saying to you that is interference in police.”

Brown disputed this.

“This is South Africa; it is our South Africa. There is nothing wrong with telling a member of Parliament or the president or whoever about a particular problem.”

Mogotsi continues with his testimony.
