Manenberg CPF Condemns Shooting of Police by Gang Member

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Manenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) has strongly condemned a shooting incident that occurred on Manenberg Avenue earlier on Tuesday.

It is alleged that the incident unfolded when a suspected gang member opened fire on Metro police officers while they were attempting to make an arrest.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether anyone was wounded during the exchange.

Videos shared with EWN show residents running for cover as rapid gunshots—described as resembling the sound of rubber bullets—ring out. The footage also shows young people throwing stones at an officer who appeared to be in the process of apprehending a suspect.

Manenberg CPF Chairperson, Vernon Visagie, expressed his dismay, stating that attacks on law enforcement officers are “unacceptable.”

In an appeal to the community, Visagie urged for greater cooperation with the police:

“I would like to appeal to the community to really give their assistance and work with the police. Should they find that they cannot work with the police officer, they should call upon us so that we can resolve the issues.”
