11 members, councillors dump Patriotic Alliance and Good party to join DA in Western Cape

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The DA in the Western Cape has welcomed 11 new members who joined its ranks from opposition parties.

Western Cape DA leader Tertuis Simmers said the politicians jumped ship in the space of three days.

“On Friday, we welcomed former ward councillors from the Good party in George. Today (Sunday) in Saldanha Bay, we welcomed eight former members and councillors of other parties, including former Patriotic Alliance (PA) members Alderman Sammy Claassen and Bumper Morgan, to the DA,” Simmers added.

“[Claassen] co-founded the PA and is a prominent political leader and activist in the West Coast area. At the press briefing today, he stated that the national and provincial elections in 2024 will be the most important election since 1994 and that voters need to vote for a sustainable future, which is only attainable under DA leadership. He also stressed the importance of a bigger majority in the Western Cape to build on the successes already achieved.”

Simmers said Claassen and Morgan were excited to be part of the DA.

He added that members of smaller parties, such as Good and the PA, were starting to see that the parties and their leadership used political power to enrich themselves and those they knew, while their members and the communities were neglected.

“The fact that these disillusioned opposition party members choose the DA confirms only one thing: the DA works,” he added.
