ANC hits back at red berets after they refused to get into governance bed with them

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) has hit back at the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) after it refused to form a government with them following the recent general elections.

The ANC snubbed the EFF’s calls to ditch a power-sharing deal with the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front (FF) Plus in favour of an exclusive deal with the red berets.

But the ANC’s decision to sign a statement of intent with nine other parties through the Government of National Unity (GNU) saw the EFF locked out of government. ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula accused EFF leader Julius Malema of moving the goalpost.

“He was advocating for a GNU with everybody, long before we even entered the elections. Now when they give him this nickname that he’s a flip-flopper, it is exactly around issues like this. He’s not consistent. He said South Africa needs a GNU, but a GNU to remove the ANC – it didn’t happen.”
