Africa-Press – South-Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) in Ekurhuleni is confident it can defeat any motion of no confidence should it come against its administration.
The party now leads a minority coalition following the withdrawal of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA’s refusal to join it in government.
This also places the ANC’s ability to pass through its legislative agenda in council at risk, as its multiparty coalition no longer holds the majority of votes.
At a media briefing in Germiston on Friday, ANC regional secretary Jongizizwe Dlabathi said the party has already started talking to new potential coalition partners.
“Are we worried about a vote of no confidence? Certainly not, we are not worried. They can bring it on, the EFF. We do believe there is an appreciation by political parties in the city of Ekurhuleni that we are committed to stability and we are being inclusive. Of course we allow political parties to exercise oversight and scrutiny over the leadership of the ANC; we are not immune to that,” Dlabathi said.
