Cape Town nurse hands himself over to police after cop stabbed to death

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 40-year-old nurse handed himself over to the police in connection with the murder of a police officer who was stabbed to death in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Saturday evening.

The Hawks arrested the man after he handed himself over to officers at Lingelethu police station following the murder of Muizenberg police captain Siphumeza Lusasa, 37, over the weekend.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the circumstances surrounding the incident were the subject of a murder investigation by Hawks detectives.

According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani, Lingelethu police found the victim’s body after receiving information about a stabbing on Spine Road, behind the police station on Saturday after 21:00.

“It was reported that Captain Lusasa was on standby duties at the time of the incident. It is alleged that the officer was involved in an argument with a lady when the suspect, who is the boyfriend [of] the lady, attacked the officer and stabbed him multiple times,” Hani said.

Hani added:

The nurse is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge soon.

Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Reagen Allen welcomed the arrest.

“The killing of our law enforcement officers will never be condoned. Those transgressing in this manner must face the full might of the law,” Allen said.

According to the department, six officers were killed in the Western Cape between April and December 2022.
