COGTA KZN Urges Law Enforcement Action After Worker Death

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Cooperative Governance Department (COGTA) in KwaZulu-Natal said the killing of municipal workers has dented the image of local governance, and called for immediate action from law enforcement.

This follows yet another attack and murder of a municipal official.

Khalesakhe Mchunu, an employee at the Umsinga Local Municipality, was murdered on Monday.

The incident comes as a few other municipal officials across the province have been targeted and killed in July alone.

KZN COGTA spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said: “The MEC Buthelezi is calling on all law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough investigations into these brutal crimes and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. Furthermore has urged municipalities to strengthen existing measures aimed at safeguarding the well-being and safety of their employees.”
