Africa-Press – South-Africa. A couple found guilty of manufacturing and dealing drugs won’t spend one day in prison after a magistrate handed them suspended sentences.

Santos Onwukaike, 41 and his wife Sandra, 38, were arrested on 31 August 2017 after being caught red-handed manufacturing the drug “cat”.

Spokesperson for the Gauteng Hawks Captain Lloyd Ramovha said authorities stared investigating on 5 May 2017 after receiving intelligence about a couple who were manufacturing drugs at a unit in Avalon Lifestyle Estate, Kempton Park.

“Analysis and surveillance were conducted, and a search and seizure operation took place on 31 August 2017. The couple were caught red-handed manufacturing the drug cat. The couple made their first appearance on 1 September 2017, where they were both denied bail and, as a result, remanded in custody until July 2018.

“After multiple court appearances, they were granted R15 000 bail each,” said Ramovha.

The couple was recently found guilty and sentenced at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court for dealing in drugs and for manufacturing them.

“The court sentenced them independently to eight years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence during the period of suspension,” said Ramovha

“On count two, they received five years imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years on condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence.”
