Africa-Press – South-Africa. South Africa recorded 801 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, which represented a 5.5% positivity rate.

According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Monday, the country recorded 3 685 120 laboratory-confirmed cases. Six new Covid-19 deaths were recorded, bringing the confirmed death toll to 99 609.

Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 32% of new infections, followed by the Western Cape with 20%. KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 15%; North West 11%; Mpumalanga 8%; Eastern Cape 6%; Free State and Limpopo 3% each; and the Northern Cape 1%.

Gauteng recorded 255 new cases on Monday, the Western Cape 157 and KwaZulu-Natal 124.

As of Monday, Gauteng recorded 1 196 846 cumulative cases, KwaZulu-Natal 654 069 and the Western Cape 642 310.

There were 28 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. In total, 2 482 people were in public and private hospitals for Covid-19.

South Africa conducted 23 259 839 cumulative tests, of which 14 466 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.

According to the Department of Health, 32 126 152 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 92 015 were administered on Monday.

To date, 17 135 488 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 695 402 vaccine doses have been administered.
