DA Defends KZN Coalition, Slams MK for Intimidation

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has defended the work of the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), insisting the coalition is stable.

This defence comes after Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli retained his position as the leader of the province on Monday afternoon, surviving a motion to oust him.

The motion was brought forward by the MK Party, which has accused the coalition of failing to deliver services and financial mismanagement.

The DA’s Dean Macpherson says the current administration is “doing okay.”

“The provincial government is very, very stable; that is why you are seeing these play out today,” Macpherson said. “If they had the numbers, they would have sat down and put up their hands. They don’t want to put up their hands because they know they are going to lose.”

Macpherson added that the chaos caused in the house deserves to be addressed.

“And this is unacceptable what we are seeing: intimidation, threats, and the irony is that the MK was complaining of intimidation, but here they are intimidating the Premier, intimidating MECs and members—they are the ones that are problematic in this house.”
