Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Department of Basic Education has committed to addressing infrastructural challenges at public schools but admitted that the task will take time.

The revelation came on Wednesday during the tabling of a school readiness report for the upcoming academic year, compiled by the South Africa Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

Education Department representative Sihle Mlambo said they are fully aware of challenges highlighted in the report.

“We came out there. It’s going to take us a very long time to be completely out of the woods in terms of the infrastructure changes. We are aware that there are moving targets that are indicating.”

Mlambo said they will partner with different departments to address issues identified by the SAHRC.

“So otherwise, the department will work with the provinces to address all the challenges that have been raised, noting that some of them will not be addressed immediately. Some of them will be addressed over a period of time.”
