Disbarred Cape Town attorney in court for R6.6m fraud

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A disbarred Cape Town attorney appeared in court for fraud to the tune of more than R6.6 million.

Western Cape Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said 41-year-old Zeenat Mohamed was arrested at her house on Tuesday.

She appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud, forgery, uttering (alternatively theft) and money laundering the same day.

Hani said Mohamed misappropriated more than R6.6 million in trust funds while practising as an attorney and conveyancer.

The money was intended for the settlement of two immovable property transactions between May 2020 and August 2021, Hani said.

She said Mohamed was released on R50 000 bail and strict conditions were attached.

The case was postponed to 23 May.

Mohamed was struck off the roll of attorneys in March.
