Africa-Press – South-Africa. Eight men accused of kidnapping a Cape Town woman briefly appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said their case was postponed until next Thursday for a possible bail application.

Sivuyile Chris Mki, Yamkela Gedeni, Mandisi Mzikayise Zweni, Athenkosi France Nyathi, Lwandile Mngazana, Lwazi Landzela, Siyabulela Madini and Zolile Sombo face charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, extortion and theft.

“Investigations led the team to five men being arrested at the Philippi taxi rank, but after more tracing by the teams, three more suspects were arrested in Mfuleni, where the victim was being held against her will,” Hani added.

News24 previously reported that the woman was kidnapped at Parow Industria on Friday evening after she left a family business where she works.

“Her vehicle was later discovered abandoned at NY 99 in Gugulethu after she failed to return home from work,” Hani said.

The task team comprising of the Hawks, provincial Organised Crime detectives, Crime Intelligence, the Special Task Force unit, hostage negotiators, City of Cape Town and the provincial crime scene management worked together after the kidnapping was reported to ensure that the suspects were arrested.

The Hawks’ provincial head, Major General Mathipa Makgato, commended the team.

“The success would not have been possible [without] the dedication and persistent efforts of the kidnapping task team. We are starting to see positive results. These members involved in the arrests have done an excellent job,” said Makgato.
