Africa-Press – South-Africa. Ekurhuleni head of HR, Linda Gxasheka, has been suspended with immediate effect.
She is accused of allegedly shielding metro police chief Julius Mkhwanazi from suspension.
Gxasheka was recently implicated at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for failing to implement an IPID report that recommended disciplinary action against Mkhwanazi.
Two years ago, IPID investigated allegations that Mkhwanazi had entered the EMPD into fraudulent contracts with companies owned by Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The report found that the contract unlawfully allowed Matlala access to EMPD blue lights.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s head of HR is the third municipal official to be suspended after being named at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
+The first was EMPD top cop Julius Mkhwanazi, who is accused of issuing blue lights to companies owned by convicted criminal Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, some of which were allegedly fitted to his private vehicles.
The second official to be suspended was the city’s head of legal, Kemi Behari, who is also alleged to have failed to implement an IPID report that recommended Mkhwanazi’s suspension.
Now Gxasheka, the head of HR, is the latest to bite the dust.
Both the head of HR and the head of legal are accused of sweeping the report under the carpet and allowing two years to pass without enforcing disciplinary action against the EMPD top cop.
