Africa-Press – South-Africa. The eThekwini Metro Municipality has announced that the two beaches, which were temporarily closed on Tuesday, have now reopened and are operating normally.
Bronze Beach and uMhlanga Main Beach were closed due to a failure of a pump at the Ohlange Wastewater Pump Station. A video widely circulated showed that rags lodged inside the pump led to its breakdown.
Municipal Manager, Musa Mbhele, confirmed that all 23 beaches are now open for the public.
“We are now happy that our bathers can come and use our beaches; they are safe to do so,” Mbhele stated. “If we continue to identify anything untoward, we will continue to do these closures just as a precautionary closure, but all our beaches are still in a good state. We are just being extra careful just for our visitors.”
