Africa-Press – South-Africa. Former Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has been fired from the city’s mayoral committee following his recent arrest for fraud.
Gwamanda, who had been serving as community development MMC, was arrested last month due to his alleged 2011 involvement in a fraudulent funeral insurance scheme.
Joburg Mayor Dada Morero suspended Gwamanda pending internal investigations into the fraud allegations.
In a statement, Morero said Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) Councillor Tebogo Nkonkou will replace Gwamanda.
“The decision to discharge Gwamanda is effective immediately and aims to ensure that the city’s service delivery remains uninterrupted and continues to meet the needs of its residents.”
The mayor is confident that Nkonkou will lead the department with dedication.
He added that the City of Johannesburg is committed to delivering quality services to residents.
