Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 23-year-old Gauteng man is standing accused of killing his 29-year-old brother, allegedly after a fight over food.

Jabu Mduduzi, 23, allegedly stabbed his brother, Dumisani Mduduzi, 29, in the chest in their Evaton West home in the Vaal on Sunday, before attempting to take his own life.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “It is reported that on Sunday, 28 May 2023, at about 21:00, two brothers were at their house in Evaton West Ext 11.

“They allegedly fought over food, and the suspect stabbed the deceased once in the chest with a knife. The victim was declared dead on the scene.”

According to a witness, who did not want to be named, the deceased’s girlfriend had called him to the “bloody scene”.

He said:

According to him, people searched the yard and later found a bread knife next to some plants.

He said Dumisani was not supposed to die like this.

“This happened to the wrong person. He shouldn’t have died like this. We didn’t expect he’d leave us like this…

“I’m sure his parents still don’t believe it. They’ve lost both sons; one to the law, and one has left them for good.

“Dumisani didn’t bother anyone. He was a hardworking man. Now he’s no longer and his children will grow up without a father. I still can’t believe it.”

Jabu appeared in the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.

Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the case was postponed to 14 June for a formal bail application.
