Godongwana accuses DA of politicising budget & compromising Treasury

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) of politicising the budget and compromising the National Treasury.

Addressing a budget breakfast organised by Media24 on Thursday, Godongwana slammed the DA for the manner it has opposed the budget and the proposed 0.5 percentage point VAT increase, while being a GNU member.

“First and foremost, they’ve compromised Treasury by saying this is an ANC budget. An independent institution such as Treasury, you make it an ANC channel.”

He said the DA’s call for concessions on the NHI Act and other legislation the party was opposed to, had nothing to with Treasury and the budget.

“And as a result, some of these issues like Expropriation Act and other things are part of the issues they are putting on the table with the budget, which are beyond Treasury officials to look at.”
