Joburg ANC acknowledges loopholes in city's adjustment budget, says there's room for improvement

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) in Joburg has acknowledged there are a number of loopholes in the city’s adjustment budget, adding there’s still room for improvement.

The city council passed its revised budget on Thursday afternoon, which showed a positive increase of R1.3 billion in its overall revenue.

However, the Democratic Alliance (DA) said that the adjusted budget doesn’t inspire confidence, saying the city needed to strengthen revenue collection.

ANC councillor Thapelo Radebe said the municipality was dealing with its financial challenges step by step.

“The MMC, the team, and the budget steering committee have done their best to put up the budget. You might have seen certain loopholes but under the current circumstances, this is the best we could have delivered. We need to improve, we agree. There is room for improvement and we need to work very hard to ensure we take the city back to where it used it be.”
