Africa-Press – South-Africa. The outcome of Santaco’s application for an order limiting the City of Cape Town’s taxi impoundments, bar three exceptions pending ongoing talks, will be made known at noon on Friday.
Judge Derek Wille will state whether he will make the agreement reached by the City, province and Santaco on 10 August an order of the court, or whether he will grant Santaco’s draft order, which is similar, or formulate his own order.
Santaco wants it to be made an order that only taxis stopped for reckless driving, absence of a permit and unroadworthiness will be impounded for now.
This is pending the finalisation of which of the 46 rules on operators’ permits should be impoundable or fineable offences.
The intention is to avoid another taxi stayaway.
Cape Town was brought to its knees when Santaco withdrew services over impoundments.
