Krugersdorp pupil suspended over assault of female Grade 10 pupil

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Nic Diederichs High School in Krugersdorp suspended a Grade 10 pupil after a video emerged of him assaulting a female pupil in the same grade.

In the video, the pupils are seen on the school’s field.

The boy approaches the girl, and after a brief exchange, she stands up to him, but he pushes her to the ground and hits her repeatedly.

The Gauteng education department said the school informed the boy’s parents of its decision to suspend him on Wednesday. He is expected to appear before the school’s disciplinary hearing on 12 February.

The department condemned the violent behaviour seen in the video and deployed officials and its psycho-social support team to counsel the victim.

Education MEC Matome Chiloane said: “We condemn, in the strongest sense, this despicable behaviour. No one can be allowed to assault anyone in our schools, and we especially condemn any form of gender based violence. We are pleased that the perpetrator is suspended and will not be allowed back to our school before necessary rehabilitation.”
