Africa-Press – South-Africa. ANC Gauteng executive member Lebogang Maile has officially launched his campaign to take over the reins of the ANC in the province.
Maile, who is the MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, launched his campaign in Hammanskraal on Friday.
He is set to take on ANC deputy chairperson Panyaza Lesufi at the provincial elective conference which will be held in June.
Electoral support for the ANC in Gauteng has declined over the years, with the party narrowly winning the province in the 2019 elections.
This electoral decline will likely shape the direction of the ANC’s campaign season.
Both Lesufi and Maile have pushed a message of renewal as part of their campaigns.
Maile told supporters at the gathering in Hammanskraal a new political era in the province was needed.
“We are going to a regional conference and a provincial conference, and our rallying call is that we want to usher a new era in the politics of the ANC in Gauteng.
“We are talking about ‘adiwele’ because people want change. When we go to the ANC conference, let it be the battle of ideas.”
He said a call for younger leadership in the ANC was not about chasing away older members, adding the party had to reflect the changing dynamics in the country.
