Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 37-year-old man was arrested on the N12 in Springs, on the East Rand, after being found in possession of drugs worth R12 million, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said the man was nabbed on Tuesday following a multidisciplinary operation led by the Trilateral Planning Cell (TPC), consisting of organised crime police officers from Mozambique, Tanzania and South Africa.
The TPC was established to counter the influx of heroin in the three countries.
Mathe said the team followed intelligence-led information that the man had been travelling from Mozambique in a white Ford Ranger, which was stashed with heroin and methamphetamine.
At about 14:30, the team spotted the vehicle and stopped it along the N12 in Springs, she said.
“Upon conducting a stop and search operation, with the assistance of the K9 narcotics dogs, drugs sealed in plastic containers were discovered hidden in a compartment in the vehicle.”
The man is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing a drug dealing charge.
